Luna's Visit With Santa Paws

Hello to all my furry kid friends, yes it is I. Sorry I have neglected my blog but things here at the Scruffy Yacht Dogs house have been very busy so Mom and Dad haven't had a lot of free time to help me edit and post all my pictures.

Well it wasn't too busy on Sunday. Dad took me up to Fetch, my favorite pet store in Port Jefferson to visit Santa Paws. I think it was because Mom made him feel guilty, he kept grumbling something about missing the football game.

Well I was enjoying my late morning nap on the sofa when I was rudely scooped up and had to endure 45 minutes of brushing, combing, and more brushing.

When we got to Fetch I wasn't really interested in sitting in Santa Paws lap. I wanted to sniff and explore all the neat doggie stuff. Dad scooped me up and put me on Santa's lap because Santa was on a tight schedule.

I gave Santa Paws my list which was very long so I'm only going to touch on some of it.

Dear Santa,
  • Could you arrange for nice homes for all the less fortunate furrykids, with lots of treats and love?
  • Could you deliver yummy Bullysticks to all the furrykid angels in heaven?
  • Could you pickup Moms grooming table a.k.a the torture chamber and drop it in the Northpole, Southpole, anywhere but here?
  • Thank you for finding Dad a job fixing computers, although I think he should've accepted your offer for that open elf position in your work shop.
  • Continued health and prosperity to my friends and family.
  • Photoshop lessons for me so I can post my own pictures.

After giving Santa my list I checked out the rest of the store for Christmas bargains, sniffed a couple of butts, sniffed some noses and home we went. Dad bought me a big N-Bone which is one of my favorites since I was such a good girl. Hopefully my next post won't take so long.

9 Day Cruise Part 1

Hello to all my furry kid friends. Well Dad stopped hogging the computer so I could update my blog. Sailor Dance went in the water the Thursday before the 4th of July. We sailed to Bayville, NY or as the locals call it "Baville By The Sea". From Bayville we sailed to Branford, CT.

Donna, aka "Top Shelf" and me enjoying the breeze.

When we got to Branford the humans decided to walk into Branford. It was a mile and half walk from the boat.

Here we are walking through town, notice I'm in the lead. Mom and Donna had to stop in all the shops. I was bored, so were Dad and Ted.

Finally a store that allowed pups.

Sniffing for bargains.

After some shopping we (Mom) found a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop, Mom's favorite.

Ted aka SAM "Secret Agent Man" and I waiting for ice cream.

Resistance is futile.

Notice I get my own cup. Mom is the weak parent.

After we finished in town it was time to head back to the boat. By now I was ready for a nap. Here is a good place.

Oh crap more walking.

Okay it's rest time and this is a fine place.

At this point I think even Donna agreed with me, here we are outside the Marine store.

Till the next...

Your pal Luna.

Millie Has A Furever Home

I just wanted to let everyone know that we found Millie a furever home.

Some really nice people, Allen and Amy adopted her and she has settled in to their household quite nicely.

While we may not have gotten along I did show Millie that squeaker toys can be fun.

Mom and Dad gave Millie some squeaker toys but she would go hide when they squeaked. Well one night Millie was watching me be my lunatic self and watching me play with my favorite squeaky ball. Instead of hiding Millie was whining so Dad gave her an extra one I had and she was hooked. Millie became a squeaky ball addict.

When Millie's new pawents came to pick her up Mom packed up her stuff along with some food. When it was time to leave we all went out to see her off and wish her well, even me.

Before they could leave Millie needed to leave some peemail for the other dogs in the neighborhood so she took her new Mom on a mini tour of the neighborhood.

Millie and I said our goodbye's and we wished her well in her new home.

Millie doesn't live that far so maybe we can visit her someday.

Best wishes sweet Millie in your new home, we will miss you.

Millie Needs A Furever Home

With much regret and sadness Mom and Dad have not been able to get Millie and I to get along. We are just too much alike; both of us want to be the top banana and neither of us are willing to give ground. Millie has really come out of her shell and seems happy to be here, just not with me. I have to admit that I don't like sharing the attention as well.

  • Millie is a very sweet 6 year old female Wire Haired Fox Terrier.
  • Needs a furever home with NO Dogs in household.
  • Very friendly with everyone she meets
  • Preferably no children under 13 (Only because there's no history)
  • Up to date on all shots
  • Micro chipped
  • Housebroken
  • Well behaved
  • Walks well on leash
She has lost a little weight and with a good diet and exercise we should be able to keep her out of the substantial wire club.

So I'm putting it out there to all my furry friends to please spread the word for Millie. Please post a picture and a link if you can and hopefully we can find Millie a furever home where she can be someones ONLY princess.

Millies First Day

Well yesterday I went to meet Millie and everything was okay, we didn't fight. She wanted to sniff me all over. When we got home I showed Millie my back yard and all the best grass to eat.

She tried some for herself.

I guess because this is a new place she looks a little confused.

She didn't want to run around and play today.

I showed her some of my favorite roaching spots.

Millie decided to give it a try for herself.

Millie came in the house and sniffed around and checked things out but she does not seem to like me. She growls and snaps at me so she is confined to the kitchen for now. Maybe she has just been through a lot of change in the last two weeks. Dad takes us for walks together and she is fine no growling or snapping.

Well we'll just have to take it one day at a time and see if she comes around. Please keep your paws crossed for Millie.

Tomorrow I Meet Millie

Well tomorrow I meet Millie. Millie is a 6 year old female Wire who was brought to a local rescue shelter. Mom and Dad found out about her from a neighbor who volunteers there. Millie's Dad had to move into an assisted living home and couldn't take Millie with him. So tomorrow Millie and I are doing a meet and greet to see if we get along. I am told that Millie is very sweet and good with humans and other dogs so we will see what happens. If all goes well Millie will be coming to live with us.

I overheard Mom and Dad talking that Millie is a little... I mean a lot on the round side. I heard the four letter word diet which usually means less treats and less handouts from the kitchen.

Well I will keep you posted. Please keep your paws crossed for Millie.

From Fergi and Jake

I wanted to thank Fergi and Jake for 2 special awards. The first award is the Proximity Award, given to blogs that invest and believe in the value of PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships. These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement! Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who then choose eight more and include this clever-written text into the body of their award. All this prize requires is to pass it on.

The second award we received is Nemo's Award: a dedication for those who love blogging activity and love to encourage friendships through blogging. To seek the reason why we all love blogging, the directions are:

  • Put the award in a post as soon as you can after you receive it
  • Don’t forget to mention the person who gave you the award.
  • Answer the Award’s question by writing the reason why you love blogging.
  • Tag and distribute the Award to as many people as you like.
  • Remember to notify the awardees and put their links in your post.

The reasons I love blogging are to share my life experiences, to meet new friends, to promote the Wire Fox Terrier breed and to see the look on Dads face after I have left muddy paw prints all over the keyboard, hehehe...

So I would like to send these awards out to...

Scruffy, Lacie, & Stan's Place

Ozzy

Maggie & Mitch

Asta Urbanista

The Barkalot Boyz

Butchy & Snickers

Fenway

Sparky

I would also like to pass these on to a sweet little boy who is no longer with us, Norman from South Africa.

Scarey Moment

Lastnight my wife Joan called me from downstairs. She said to come down the stairs quietly so as not to disturb Luna. When I reached the bottom of the stairs Luna was laying on the floor next to Joan making wheezing sounds. We got her up and she was walking around still making wheezing sounds. she looked like she needed to get something up but couldn't. I let her out back and she heard something in the back and was barking but we could tell that something was wrong by the sound of her bark.

While Joan was calling around for an emergency vet I took Luna down the street thinking that walking might induce her to bring up whatever seemed to be obstructing her breathing. She was able to walk okay but I could tell she was trying to expel something. A neighbor came out with her dog and Luna got all excited and was pulling and tugging and thats when it came up. I could not believe it was 6 to 8" of rawhide that I literally had to yank out of her mouth. Of course Luna didn't want to leave it behind.

I brought the rawhide back to the house and Joan immediately knew what it was. About 4 hours earlier she had given Luna a Flossie. Luna has had these before but this time the one she had was bigger than the ones she usually has; and for whatever reason she consumed the entire thing in one sitting. Usually she will chew on it then leave it and come back to it over the course of a couple of days, shredding the thing to pieces.

Luna is fine now but you never know. I guess you just have to monitor them when they have these things. Just be aware, a lesson learned.

Best regards,

John (Luna's Dad)

A Bit Under The Weather

Well today was not a good day for me. I was feelin a bit under the weather. Something did not agree with my tummy. When Mom & Dad came home they found me fast a sneep on top of my crate.

They also walked into a poop, vomit, and pee surprise. I got sick all over the house. I even got sick in my dog cave.

Well while Mom and Dad were busy cleaning up the mess I left for them; I unknown to Mom & Dad went through the grocery bags Mom had just brought home. I found some yummy cherry tomato's which I had out all over the dining room floor when Dad came down to get more cleaning supplies. Ooops... he was not happy to find this surprise.

Not being the picture of health he could not get mad at me.

Mom decided to make me a special dinner to help settle my tummy. She made me rice and flounder, mixed with a little apple sauce.

It was very tasty and I didn't leave a crumb.

I licked the bowel so clean I could actually see my reflection in the bottom of the bowel.

After dinner I felt much better and was feelin like my old self.

My beards still a little ripe so no Luna Licks tonight.

Woof at you soon.

Someone Has Got Their Facts Mixed Up

Hello to all my friends. I don't know who came up with the definition but my blog has been suffering from NBS, "Neglected Blog Syndrome".

Now as those of you who live in PA, NJ, NY, and parts of MA know, we got upwards of 14" of the white stuff dumped on us back on March 2nd. Now you be the judge of who should be giving back their bonus especially if they received any federally funded treats from President Obama.

This was the view out my front door. I guess we can't go for a walk this way.

This was the view out my back door. We can't go out that way. We will have to try the garage door. Pssss... Dad made the mistake of opening the sliding door and he wound up with a pile of snow in the livingroom. He had to use a shovel and broom to get the snow back outside so he could close the door. WAAAAAA it was hilarious.

I was finally able to get outside through the garage. We would've needed a sled to come down the front steps.

The wind was sure blowing. I made the mistake of jumping into a snow drift. I looked like seal flopping around on a beach, not good.

I had one heck of time trying to locate any good pee-mail, but it was fun frolicking in the snow.

Luna Licks to you all.

Happy Saint Patty's Day & Happy Birthday Melissa

Just a quick post to wish everyone a Happy Saint Patty's Day and to wish my human sister Melissa a Happy Birthday. We are going to her house later for a Happy Birthday dinner. I will stare laser beams into the weak parent (Mom) and surely get some table scraps.

Grooming Road Trip

Well as you know from my last post Mom and Dad took me on a long journey upstate NY so Mom could learn how to hand strip me. I usually fall asleep in the car but we were taking roads I never had traveled on. I think I fell asleep about halfway through the drive which was ruffly 4 - 5 hours or so I'm told.

After a nice nap I finally woke up when the car came to a stop in our cousin Alexa and Dan's driveway. They have a big beautiful old house. I left a little pee-mail in the driveway and then in the house I went I ran right past my cousin Alexa to explore their house.

Oops! Whats this? A new furry cousin. This is Lilly, she was a very gracious hostess and greeted me with open paws.

Lilly was very happy to meet a new cousin.

Dad and Cousin Dan took me for a walk around Altamont to checkout the village. The night before we left I got a bath so I would be nice and clean for my grooming. Well when I got back to the house after walking through snow and slush, lots of slush I could have used an under carriage washing.

Well the next morning Mom, Dad, and I took a ride to Mr's Morris house for my grooming. We were driving and driving until there was nothing around but trees and the occasional horse.

It turns out Mr's Morris is Smitty's grandma. What a small world. When we went into the kennel there were a bunch of dogs staying with the Morris's for vacation. They were very excited to see me. Lots of barking and wet noses peering over the wall.

Now I have to apologize for not having a lot of pictures of my grooming. Since Mom was learning how to hand strip me, Dad was busy using the video camera so Mom would have something to refer to.

Caroline got to work and Mom was taking notes and Dad was video taping. Dad would never make it in Hollywood, at one point he put the camera down and forgot to stop recording so we have about 7 minutes of the coat pile and sound. Mom will just have to fast forward through that. Well after about 3 hours of plucking we took a break for lunch. I looked kind of silly actually as the the only part that still needed to be done was my head. So I had a stripped body and a scruffy head.

After lunch Caroline finished my head and here I am getting the finishing touches and inspection. Caroline said I was a very good girl during my grooming.

After we were done Mom put on my dreaded coat, since my natural coat was now all over the floor. I hate wearing a coat but it was quite nippy out.

It was getting late and it was time to drive back to Alexa and Dan's house.

On the way back Dad had to stop for a photo op. He found a street sign with our last name on it. He almost got us stuck in a ditch when he pulled over, thank goodness for 4 wheel drive.

When we got back to Alexa and Dan's I ran right in to show Lilly my new do.

She was ecstatic with delight.

Here I am with cousin Alexa getting a back scratch.

The humans decided to go out for dinner so we got good girl treaty's.

The next morning it was time to pack up the truck and head back to Long Island.

Thank you to Alexa and Dan for putting us up in their beautiful home and Thank you Lilly for being a great cousin. Maybe you can come visit us this summer.

After 4 hours of driving we went from lots of snow and cold to almost no snow and temps in the 5o's.

I had a very nice weekend although I would've rather spent 4 hours playing with Lilly than standing on a grooming table. I got to meet new cousins and see new places. It was very taxing and I finally crashed when we got home.

I want to thank Caroline for teaching my Mom how to groom me. One can only hope she took good notes and I don't wind up looking like Mr. Bigglesworth.

Bye for now your friend...
