Scarey Moment

Lastnight my wife Joan called me from downstairs. She said to come down the stairs quietly so as not to disturb Luna. When I reached the bottom of the stairs Luna was laying on the floor next to Joan making wheezing sounds. We got her up and she was walking around still making wheezing sounds. she looked like she needed to get something up but couldn't. I let her out back and she heard something in the back and was barking but we could tell that something was wrong by the sound of her bark.

While Joan was calling around for an emergency vet I took Luna down the street thinking that walking might induce her to bring up whatever seemed to be obstructing her breathing. She was able to walk okay but I could tell she was trying to expel something. A neighbor came out with her dog and Luna got all excited and was pulling and tugging and thats when it came up. I could not believe it was 6 to 8" of rawhide that I literally had to yank out of her mouth. Of course Luna didn't want to leave it behind.

I brought the rawhide back to the house and Joan immediately knew what it was. About 4 hours earlier she had given Luna a Flossie. Luna has had these before but this time the one she had was bigger than the ones she usually has; and for whatever reason she consumed the entire thing in one sitting. Usually she will chew on it then leave it and come back to it over the course of a couple of days, shredding the thing to pieces.

Luna is fine now but you never know. I guess you just have to monitor them when they have these things. Just be aware, a lesson learned.

Best regards,

John (Luna's Dad)

John,

Good thing you were so observant and proactive in getting Luna to walk. What a scare!! We know the feeling well. Waking up to a panting or wheezing dog and wondering what to do.

So, wirey thanks from the boyz that all is well.

Joan

[Since your wife's name is Joan -- and mine is too -- I decide to preempt Jake and Just Harry in this note!!]

Luna,

We are REALLY glad you showed your people you needed their attention... and you let 'em have the soggy ole rawhide, even though we're sure you wanted to keep it. Ask for steak, cut in small pieces, next time!

So glad ta hear ya are fine after the big scare. There have been a few times that one of us has gotten a piece of rawhide stuck in our throats and scared Gram half ta death but like ya we got it back up just in time. Guess that's why they tell ya that yer supposed ta watch doggies when they're eaten those things.

Pap hates 'em cause at times we get loose BMs when we eat 'em and when yer away 'n ya have ta pick it up right away...so not nice when it soft 'n runny. Pap says "Yuck " !!

Ya take care Luna, will ya ????
How's the strippin' goin' ????
From the look in Gram's eyes....we're gettin' the dreaded hair treatment any day now....

How's your throat after your rawhide incident? Did it get raspy (and sexy?) We hope you are fine.

One of these days Mom says she wants to go clear through your blog and look for you on your sailboat. She used to sail with an old beau, and always dreamed of taking her wire with her. Now WE want to give it a try someday (She hasn't given up the dream!)
